Charlie had his chocolate factory. Stanley Yelnats had his holes. Leo has the wacky, amazing Whippet Hotel.

The Whippet Hotel is a strange place full of strange and mysterious people. Each floor has its own quirks and secrets. Leo should know most of them - he is the maintenance man's son, after all. But a whole lot more mystery gets thrown his way when a series of cryptic boxes are left for him . . . boxes that lead him to hidden floors, strange puzzles, and unexpected alliances. Leo had better be quick on his feet, because the fate of the building he loves is at stake . . . and so is Leo's own future!

Favorite Character
The gardener.
Can't remember his name off the top of my head.

My Thoughts
I enjoyed this novel as well as the rest of the trilogy Patrick Carman wrote.
As a child I used to imagine goofy rooms and themes.
The Whippet Hotel could have came straight out of my own imaginations.
Defiantly a great book for an imaginative mind.

January days 2020

Some of my family haven't been feeling well this past week.
I normally spend my Sundays at Samwise' family's place.
But the last two days I haven't felt very well so I have extra time on my hands.
What's better to do but update on here!

Earlier this month I made a few loaves of bread.
My family and I ate one loaf right away.
But I was able to have a few slices before work two days in a row.
Something rare in this house. We all love fresh bread.

A few photos of a sunset.
A very wimpy January for the Midwest.

My family took the tree and our Christmas decorations down.
I was sad to see them go.

Quigley took advantage of the open space to play.

Samwise and I went to looked at another place one Friday.
We looked at one the Wednesday before.
This one was a little closer to my parents.
Where the other was closer to his.

Defiantly my style kitchen, green.
The wood floor defiantly go well with the green in my opinion.

I watched my grandparents place as they visited my uncle and his family.
My job was to keep the fire going and their dog feed.
Two of my aunt and a few of their children stopped in to sledding.
So I had cookies and hot chocolate ready by the time they were child from the cold.
My aunts made a few comment of, "Oh look, it's grandma."

Later that evening I attempted to make shepherds pie from memory.
I was surprised how good it was.

It's been a while, (in my standards) since I've done any artwork.

I sketched this out.

I've colored it in. I'm still trying to decide what to do for the background.

We had to wait 'till mid January to get a really good snow this year.

One of my sisters found her way into the ditch yesterday morning.
It's her first winter driving by herself.
Dad managed to get her out so it's all good.

Even though it's an annoyance, I still love the snow!
I would never be satisfied if I lived in a warmer climate.

Teri's kitten Gandalf followed as I took photos of the Winter Wonderland.

The cat's like the nook of our chimney.
Tommy built them a little cat house.

Our bird feeder is in use.

Back when I was in 7th or 8th grade I tried to write a story.
I never got past the 2nd chapter.
Eowyn has inspired me to try again.
I've had a book idea in my head for the longest time.
I can safely say I've made it all the way through the 2nd chapter.
We'll see how far I can get this one! 😂

What's something I should add to my next post?
Let me know.

Well that's all for now folks!

My Book Reviews

Book Reviews

As a bookworm I can assure you I enjoy reading many books.
I've decided I'll be sharing stuff about the books I read.

My Classifications.

Tween Books ~ 10+
Teen Books ~ 13+
Young Adult ~ 17/18+

There are quit a few books that are marked teen books, that should be listed as young adult 17/18+
I will be putting which section you can find a book at my local library.

The Dragon With A Chocolate Heart

Author: Stephanie Burgis

Genre: Fantasy Fiction

Online blurb*
Aventurine is not the kind of dragon who can sit inside her family mountain for decades. If she’s cooped up for even one more hour, she might explode! Her family claims she’s too young to leave safely, but she’s fierce and she’s brave, and she’s ready to prove it by capturing the most dangerous prey of all: a human.
Unfortunately, the human she captures turns out to be even sneakier than she was expecting. When he tricks her into drinking enchanted hot chocolate, she finds herself transformed into a puny, twelve-year-old human girl with tiny, blunt teeth, no fire, and not a single claw to use in battle. But she’s certain that she’s still the fiercest creature in these mountains – and now she’s found her true passion: chocolate. All she has to do is walk on two feet to the human city to find herself an apprenticeship (whatever that is) in a chocolate house (which sounds delicious), and she’ll be conquering new territory in no time…right?
Wild and reckless young Aventurine will bring havoc to the human city – but what she doesn’t expect is that she’ll find real friendship there, too, along with betrayal, deception, delicious chocolate…and a startling new understanding of what it means to be a human (and a dragon) after all.
My Thoughts
It was interesting how Stephanie gave character to the dragon turned human.
As the story progressed Adventurine went from a arrogant prideful dragon,
To a girl who made friends,
and learned sometimes we have to push through our pride and fear of failure to achieve our goals.

After reading this story I had a deep urge to make hot chocolate.
I enjoyed adding; vanilla extract, cinnamon  and ginger.
If I had a hard cream I would have whipped it and added that too.
Very enjoyable!

A realistic, fast-paced reimagining of the Sleeping Beauty fairytale full of royalty, romance, and danger. This masterful combination of love and heartbreak—combined with the novel’s surprise ending—is everything fans of fantasy, historical, and medieval fiction yearn for.

Rose has been appointed as a healer’s apprentice at Hagenheim Castle, a rare opportunity for a woodcutter’s daughter like her. While she often feels uneasy at the sight of blood, Rose is determined to prove herself capable. Failure will mean returning home to marry the aging bachelor her mother has chosen for her—a bloated, disgusting merchant who makes Rose feel ill.

When Lord Hamlin, the future duke, is injured, it is Rose who must tend to him. As she works to heal his wound, she begins to understand emotions she’s never felt before and wonders if he feels the same.

But falling in love is forbidden, as Lord Hamlin is betrothed to a mysterious young woman in hiding. As Rose’s life spins toward confusion, she must take the first steps on a journey to discover her own destiny.

My Thoughts

This book was very interesting.
The villain of this book is a man named Moncore. As I view it he is a true villain.
Moncore is a servant to the demons that whisper in his head.
Most villains I find pathetic, but in this book I found myself truly fearful.
There are two brothers that show how different even siblings can be. (similar to one of my sister and myself)
As the older brother tries to do his best, honor God and find Moncore before he plagues his betrothed with demons. Wilhelm truly is pictured as a great man.
His brother Lord Rupert on the other hand turns towards earthly pleasures.
Rupert hopes that his father will appoint him the next Bishop of Hagenheim when the old bishop dies.
For at the time the bishop was the most powerful and wealthy man in Hagenheim.
Though while the story progressed Rupert argued with Rose a little on the controversial issue,
That priest must remain celibate.
I was a little surprised they would add that in the book,
but it did make Rupert's character a little less appealing.

This book was classified online for readers 13-18. I disagree with this for there are a few scenes and references (Nothing too horrible). That I believe someone under 17 maybe even 18 may not understand or wish to read about.  Hence my classifying it as young adult.

The Ascendance Trilogy/Series

Book 4 of the Ascendance Series!!!

Posted by  on Dec 17, 2019 in Uncategorized
My friends, THIS IS THE SUPER SECRET PROJECT! Today, Publisher’s Weekly announced Book 4 of the Ascendance (no longer a trilogy) Series: THE CAPTIVE KINGDOM, coming in October 2020.

Super exciting news! My favorite book trilogy is becoming a series in October!!!!!!

Ironically.
My favorite book series will have 4 books publish soon.
And I don't own a single copy of the first three books yet!

Jennifer A. Nielsen has written a few other book trilogies after writing the Ascendance Trilogy.
The "Mark of the Thief " By Jennifer Nielsen has a similar feel to it as The False Prince did.
Both books have young boys as their main character, Sage and Nic.
"Mark of the Thief" is set in Rome,
where "The Ascendance" trilogy/series has more of it's own little universe.
I never finished her book "Traitor's Game".
The main character is a young girl, not as humorous as Sage from "The False Prince".

She has a few more books,
I haven't ventured far into her work after finding "Traitor's Game"so uninteresting.
